Dove Academy’s Student Discipline Policy

2008-2009

Please review Dove Academy’s complete Student Discipline Policy in the Academy’s 2007-2008 Student/Parent Handbook. Below is a summary of Dove Academy’s Student Discipline Policy for your quick reference:

CODE OF CONDUCT

A major component of the educational program at Dove Academy is to prepare students to become responsible workers and citizens by learning how to conduct themselves properly and in accordance with established standards.

Expected Behaviors

Each student shall be expected to:

· Abide by national, state, and local laws as well as the rules of the school;

· Respect the civil rights of others;

· Act courteously to adults and fellow students;

· Be prompt to school and attentive in class;

· Work cooperatively with others when involved in accomplishing a common goal, regardless of the other's ability, gender, race, religion, height, weight, disability, or ethnic background;

· Complete assigned tasks on time and as directed;

· Help maintain a school environment that is safe, friendly, and productive;

· Act at all times in a manner that reflects pride in self, family, and in the school.

IF A PROBLEM OCCURS…

Students that choose not to follow the Academy’s Code of Conduct will be assigned fair and appropriate consequences by the Academy’s staff and/or administration.

We encourage our staff to communicate regularly with the parents of our students. An essential part of this communication includes bringing concerns about student behavior to the attention of the parent/guardian.

Your child’s educational experience at Dove Academy requires your daily attention. Our experience over the last 10 years has proven that when our expectations are reinforced at home by the parent/guardian, the child benefits. Your support is not only appreciated, it’s needed!

DOVE ACADEMY IS A WORKPLACE

Your child has a job. Their job is to come to school every day and give their best effort. They must report to class on time with the clear intention to LEARN as much as they can.

The school year goes by fast and if your child is going to learn all that they need to learn to be prepared for success in the next grade level, there is no time to waste. We expect your child to demonstrate a strong work ethic. We believe a strong work ethic is essential for your child to earn success in school and in life. We would like to work with you to help your child develop this trait during their experience at our Academy.

RESPECT, RESPONSIBILTIY, & PRIDE

“Treat others as you expect to be treated.”

We expect your child to be respectful of everyone they work with (students and adults).

Being respectful requires your child to consider the mind, body, and spirit of the children and adults that they work with. Our students are not allowed to hurt each other. They are not allowed to hurt each other physically (hitting, kicking, pinching, etc.) or spiritually (teasing, insulting, threatening, etc.) Dove Academy is a workplace that requires many people to work together. We do not expect your child to like everyone that they work with, however we expect your child to be respectful of everyone them. They must speak respectfully (i.e. our students are not permitted to use profanity at school under any circumstance) and act respectfully (in a way that does not take away from the educational experience of others).

We expect your child to be responsible. We expect your child to be responsible for their actions, their words, their belongings, the property of the school they are allowed to use, and the tasks that are assigned to them (i.e. homework). We will work with our students to develop a consistent sense of responsibility at school. Your child is responsible for their school work as well their participation in school activities.

We expect your child to make you proud. We want your child to consider what will make you proud before they make decisions. We want your child to be proud of their own actions and achievement. Please make an effort to show your child when you are proud of them.

STUDENT DISCIPLINE REPORT

If an incident occurs during the school day that requires an administrator to discipline your child, we will send home a Student Discipline Report. A Parent/Guardian must sign the bottom section of this report and send the signed bottom copy of the report to your child’s Classroom Teacher when your child returns to school (Returning Parents, please note, Dove Academy will be utilizing a new Student Discipline form for the 2007-2008 school year). If you ever have a question regarding a Student Discipline Report, please contact Mr. Nardelli through our main office at (313) 366-9110.
